DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
New Hospital We conducted a VE study for a new $580 million, 526 bed hospital, diagnostic service, emergency and trauma center, and physicians’ offices complex resulting in an improved project while saving $38 million construction costs.
Transit At an early design stage for a $40 million transit terminal station and offices our leadership of the project team in a VE study resulted in a $1.6 million cost saving by eliminating unnecessary project features.
Research Laboratory A VE study we facilitated reduced budgeted systems cost for a new research laboratory by 10% and reinvested the savings to increase the size of the laboratories.
PROCEDURES AND PROCESS
Purchasing We directed a VE study which reduced by 13 days to one day the time required to procure office supplies. $600,000 annual personnel and warehouse costs were saved and a system put in place to track supply orders and costs directly to individuals and their departments.
Textbook Distribution We led a team of high school teachers and staff to study its book acquisition, storage and distribution process resulting in identifying two functions accounting for 40 percent of staff time. This led to major operational changes saving 10 percent of controllable costs over a three year period.
MANUFACTURING
Automotive OEM Testing Equipment Under our leadership a manufacturer of equipment used by OEM automobile engine makers used VE to realize an annual $1 million savings on 30 machines.
Lawn Trimmer We facilitated VE of an existing mature product which reduced manufacturing cost and improved features resulting in a leading consumer magazine moving a lawn edge trimmer to the top of its recommended list.
